Drought conditions are slowly improving across Kansas.

The U.S. Drought Monitor updated its map Thursday, showing that 40 percent of the state is in an exceptional drought, the highest drought ranking by the monitor. That compares to nearly 45 percent a week ago.

Also, a very small areas on the eastern edge of Kansas is moving into a moderate drought.

The Climate Prediction Center of the National Weather Service predicts the drought to continue through December, but with areas in southeastern Kansas improving.
