Kansas School Lunch Week, marked the week of Jan. 28 in Kansas elementary and secondary school cafeterias, will give a nod to Kansas agriculture.

The Kansas Department of Agriculture and the Kansas Department of Education will promote a specific lunch menu highlighting Kansas farm products, a state press release announced.

The following commodities will be celebrated during the week, the release said: : Monday, Kansas Corn Day; Tuesday, Kansas Sunflower Day; Wednesday, Kansas Beef Day; Thursday, Kansas Milk Day; and Friday, Kansas Wheat Day.

"Helping students draw the connection between agriculture and the food on their plate during school lunch is an important component of agriculture education," said Kate Bormann, Kansas Department of Agriculture's education and event coordinator. "We are excited to partner with KSDE in more initiatives to encourage schools to promote Kansas agriculture and food products in the lunch room."
