ELKHART – The U.S. Forest Service, Cimarron National Grassland is planning prescribed pile burning in Morton County. The project may occur as early as mid – February and throughout the winter/spring as weather and fuel conditions allow for an opportunity.
Fire specialists will monitor environmental conditions to determine when a safe burning window is identified. Once an opportunity is identified, public notice will be provided prior to ignitions.
The planned projects involve burning piles of slash to reduce hazardous fuel accumulations at the Tunnerville Administrative Site approximately three miles north of Elkhart. Smoke will be visible during burning operations. Skilled fire crews will be on scene to ignite and monitor the burns.
